Loop yoga studio also encourages naps
A new yoga studio is having its grand opening Wednesday (April 1) in a place I bet it is sorely needed: the Chicago Board of Trade.
Bottom Line Yoga (BLY)’s home is on the seventh floor of the CBOT, 141 W. Jackson. (Look for Suite 750). Naturally the 3,000-square-foot facility has a yoga studio and a locker room. But it also includes one of the best ideas I’ve heard in a long time: a mindful lounge where one can take a nap during the workday.
Oh, what I wouldn’t have given for a spot to go clear my head and close my eyes for a bit when I worked downtown! And BLY seems to have really thought this through. It provides cushion-y mats, pillows and blankets. Light sleeper? BLY also offers earplugs and eye pillows. As its website notes, many cultures embrace a midday siesta, claiming it leaves a person refreshed and more productive. I tell you, this is a great idea.
Classwise, it will be offering a number of different types of yoga classes for the beginner as well as the advanced student. There also is guided and open meditation.
There are classes early in the morning, throughout the day and early evening. To accommodate those who want to come at lunchtime, there are 50-minute yoga sessions.
Oh, and I like this one too, at 5:15 p.m. Fridays, Restore and Unwind is held. It’s a restorative class, followed by wine and munchies. Nice way to get rid of the week’s stress and meet some other like-minded folks. As Chris and Powell told me in an interview, we can’t always rely on our family and friends to be involved in the same healthy endeavors; that might not be part of their game plan. That’s why it’s important to make new buddies doing what you enjoy.
BLY also has a wellness team that will go out and set up a customized plan for in-office yoga classes and meditation for businesses.
