How to maintain muscle during workout hiatus
Sometimes injury, sickness, vacation or crazy schedules keep us from the gym, but fitnessmagazine.com has some steps you can take to maintain muscle (and not gain fat) during those times you’re unable to regularly work out.
Two of the best suggestions? Eat a burger and drink some wine.
Red meat contains creatine, which provides fuel for muscles and has been shown to maintain muscle strength and size when you’re injured, says Jeffrey R. Stout, PhD, associate professor at the University of Central Florida and author of the book, “Essentials of Creatine in Sport and Health.”
And red wine contains the antioxidant resveratrol, which may help muscles grow, according to a Journal of Translational Medicine study.
