Best ways to keep workout clothes clean

Workout clothes need a little extra attention when laundry day comes, for two reasons: They get dirtier than your everyday walk-around clothes, and they’re more delicate — especially the ones with stretchy fabric, according to a Shape magazine article.

Adding extra detergent to a particularly smelly load may seem logical, but it’s counterproductive, according to the article. Washing machines are built to handle a certain amount of detergent at a time, so any excess build up on your clothes — which is the perfect environment for fungus.

Fabric softener is also a no-no, because it damages anything that stretches. Instead, use white vinegar, which kills odors and softens fabric.
